Historique : Cette réplique de 356 Speedster a été construite par un carrossier indépendant français en 2004 dans le Pas-de-Calais. L’auto est réalisée sur la base d’un châssis et d’une carte grise de Coccinelle de 1970. Le châssis a été raccourci de 29,7 cm pour correspondre aux cotes exactes des véritables 356. Il l’a faite pour lui, avec beaucoup de soin. Finalement, il l’a revendue en 2014 au propriétaire actuel. Ce dernier la fait suivre exclusivement chez un spécialiste flat-4 réputé : DDS Automobile. D’après ces professionnels expérimentés, cette réplique est de très belle facture, digne de répliques “officielles”.

État :
Général : Cette auto est en très bon état général, aussi bien esthétiquement que mécaniquement.

Extérieur : La carrosserie de la voiture est dans un état remarquable. À priori, la capote et ses arceaux proviendrait d’une véritable Speedster. En effet, le mécanisme ressemble beaucoup à du matériel authentique, elle tombe parfaitement et sa tension est idéale. Les jantes, chromes et phares sont également en excellent état.

Intérieur : L’habitacle est en très bon état. Les sièges présentent bien, hormis un petit raccord de sellerie sur le siège conducteur à reprendre pour les plus exigeants. Les instruments de bord sont fonctionnels. On note la présence d’un volant Motolita très élégant (valeur proche de 1000 €). L’auto est dotée d’un anti démarrage discret pour davantage de sécurité.

Mécanique : Sur le plan mécanique, le moteur est un 1200 cm3 développant 60 ch. Celui-ci démarre parfaitement et offre une superbe sonorité grâce à l’échappement à double sorties. L’auto a bénéficié d’un entretien en mars 2024 et le système de freinage a été refait l’année dernière. La boîte de vitesses est en bon état, les rapports passent bien. Le comportement routier de l’auto est vif.

Soubassements : Les soubassements de l’auto sont sains et exempts de corrosion. Des photos sont disponibles sur demande.

De Porsche 356 Speedster werd in 1954 geïntroduceerd nadat Max Hoffman, de Amerikaanse importeur van het Duitse merk, kansen zag voor een goedkopere, spartaanse open sportauto op basis van de succesvolle 356. Porsche introduceerde daarop de 356 Speedster, zoals veel legendarische modellen uit de geschiedenis van Porsche leidde de “kunst van het weglaten” tot één van de meest begeerlijke modellen uit de autogeschiedenis.

Deze Porsche 356 Vintage Speedster is een recreatie van het origineel, het betreft een exemplaar die gebouwd is door het gerenommeerde Amerikaanse bedrijf Vintage Speedsters die inmiddels meer dan 3.300 exemplaren van de Speedster heeft afgeleverd.

Deze Speedster beschikt onderhuids over een verkort chassis van een VW Kever uit 1962. Daar is een stalen subframe op gemonteerd waardoor de auto over een zeer hoge mate van stijfheid beschikt. 90% van de Speedster recreaties zijn dan ook afkomstig van deze Amerikaanse bouwer, ingegeven door de hoge bouwkwaliteit.

De meesten aangeboden Speedsters beschikken over een 1.600cc luchtgekoelde motor, Door de optionele dubbele sportuitlaat produceert deze Speedster een indrukwekkend geluid dat de liefhebber als muziek in de oren zal klinken. Qua stopkracht hoeft de bestuurder zich ook geen zorgen te maken aangezien dit exemplaar beschikt over de optionele schijfremmen aan de voorzijde.

De body van de Speedster is uitgevoerd in polyester. Omdat de laklaag het oordeel van de perfectionist niet kon doorstaan werd besloten voor aflevering de body van een nieuwe laklaag te voorzien in 5404 Elfenbein Weiss, een originele Porsche kleur.

De body is als nieuw en volledig schadevrij. De aangebrachte goudkleurige belettering en emblemen zijn de originele exemplaren uit de schappen van Porsche. Tevens is hij voorzien van de aluminium sier, en dorpellijsten. De stoffen cabrioletkap en bijpassende opzetramen zijn eveneens uitgevoerd in crème en ogen alsof deze nooit gebruikt zijn.

Het interieur is bekleed in een schitterende crème kleur die uitstekend complementeert met de witte lak. De kuipstoelen houden u perfect op uw plaats en zijn bekleed met kunstleer. Het houten Nardi stuurwiel met originele Porsche claxon knop en het minimalistische dashboard doen in geen enkel opzicht vermoeden dat je in een replica zit.

Kortom, een prachtige Porsche 356 Speedster recreation in een zeer smaakvolle kleurstelling, uitzonderlijk hoge kwaliteit en voorzien van aantrekkelijke opties die niet onder doet voor een nieuw exemplaar.

From its debut in 1948, the 356 evolved through 4 “generations”, gaining more power, greater comfort, and more advanced technology while retaining the same general shape as the original. The 356 B debuted in 1960 and ran almost to the end of 356 production in 1963- although largely similar to the 356 A that came before it, the 356 B gained new bumpers, raised headlights, and larger chrome trim as the hood opener. During 356 B production, the first series was known as the “T5” which consisted of the above changes, while in 1962, the “T6” body became the norm which in many ways was the car that bridged the gap between the 356 and 911 to come just a few years later.

This 1961 356 B is a cabriolet with a T5 body. Finished in bright red, it has been under the care of a single owner since 1997 and is the perfect 356 for the owner looking to buy a car to drive and enjoy. During the 356 B series, Porsche didn’t produce a Speedster, but this car—known as a BT5 Cabriolet—is, in many ways, the spiritual successor to that series of sought-after drop-tops. Although this car has clearly been refurbished over the years, it doesn’t seem ever to have been fully restored and retains its numbers matching body panels and drivetrain. The black fabric soft top is in decent condition and folds away easily behind the front seats. As a BT5, this car only has one rear grille over the engine bay, and sitting below it are a pair of gold badges stating that this car is fitted with the legendary 1,600 cc flat-4 engine.

The interior of the car is finished in a combination of tan and black, with tan vinyl covering the seats and door cards. From the factory, this car would have come with a dashboard painted to match the body color, but at some point, it was changed to satin black on this car. Although the Porsche purists may not be quite so enthusiastic about this change, in truth it helps cut down on glare when driving with the top down and is a nice addition that was later adopted by most cars. The original large plastic steering wheel has been swapped out for a smaller wood and metal Moto-Lita 3-spoke wheel, which feels great in the hands and makes ingress and egress far easier. An era-appropriate Blaupunkt radio sits just above the shifter, and is a refreshing sight to see since many cars from this era have been saddled with far less attractive modern head units in recent years.

Sitting out back is the 1,600cc air-cooled flat 4, which is rated from the factory for 60 horsepower. Although this doesn’t sound like much in modern times, the 356 B Cabriolet reportedly weighs just under 900 kg, which means that 60 horsepower is plenty to have a good time. This engine is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox, which adds to the engaging driving experience. One of the things that keeps interest in the 356 high after all these years is that for a car as old as they are, the driving experience is actually quite modern feeling. Whereas many sports cars from the 1950s have unpleasantly heavy controls and ponderous handling, the 356 feels light and nimble, and the inputs are all excellently weighted.

With summer approaching, it is hard to imagine a car better suited to top-down motoring than this 356 BT5 Cabriolet. With its fantastic driver-quality condition throughout, you won’t have to worry about your freshly restored showpiece being damaged and instead, you can focus on what the car is truly built for- enjoying the open road.
