In 1989, the Lotus M100 Elan was released. The car was designed by Peter Stevens, who was also responsible for restyling the Lotus Esprit.
The Lotus M100 Elan used a fast 1588cc engine from Isuzu . That had a double camshaft, 16 valves and a turbocharger, good for a power output of 132 hp.
The idea of a front-wheel-drive Lotus paired with an Isuzu engine and a five-speed gearbox was very progressive. This also became the only front-wheel drive model, all models after the M100 Elan were rear-wheel drive again.
In 1992, Elan production was stopped due to the poor economic situation at the time.
In 1996 and 1997, Kia Motors still built the Elan under licence as "Kia Elan" for the local Korean market with an 1800 cc 136 hp engine. Some of these Kia Elan models found their way to Europe.
"Collection by Vermant" was able to get hold of one of these rare Kia Elan models. It is a German-delivered car from 28/09/2000. This Elan has only 17,980 km on the odometer.
The original yellow colour gives this roadster a sporty look. The paintwork on the Kia is in very good condition, with no scratches or dents. On this Elan, the Kia logos were fortunately not replaced by Lotus emblems, which obviously adds to the collector's value.
With its low weight and powerful engine, the Kia Elan drives very smoothly and sportily. In nice weather, the manual convertible roof can be stowed smoothly and you can fully enjoy open driving.
